Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg is a city located in the central part of Austria, in the homonymous province. It occupies an area of ​​65, 678 square kilometers, and a population of about 150 000 citizens. Salzburg is the fourth largest city in Austria.

Salzburg is a city with a long history. The settlement in this place existed in antiquity and the present name was given in the seventh century. At the end of the eighteenth and beginning of the nineteenth century Salzburg was the site of turbulent events, in 1815 finally became part of Austria.Today Salzburg is a famous tourist destination, with a number of support facilities for which it is visited each year by a large number of people.

Mozart's birthplace - Hagenauer House is a place where the Mozart family lived in the period of 1747 - 1773. On the third floor of this house was born, in 1756, the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Today the house is a museum where are exposed numerous items, such as Mozart's child violin and other instruments on which he played.

Mirabell castle was built in the seventeenth century. The park, which has some of the most beautiful European garden was completed in 1730. Within the castle is the famous Marble Hall, one of the most beautiful halls for weddings.

 

The Cathedral is one of the finest examples of early Baroque architecture. It kept many valuable objects, and is famous for baptistery where Mozart was baptized.

Festung Hohensalzburg is a castle situated on a hill Festungsberg, and dominates over Salzburg. The construction of the castle started in the eleventh century, and it was upgraded in the next 400 years. Due to the length of 250 and a width of 150 meters, it is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.

Fort Hohenwerfen was built at the end of the eleventh century, on a cliff with a height of 113 meters. After that the fort was upgraded several times. In the castle was filming the famous Eagle's Nest movie with Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton.

Getreidegasse is one of the most famous streets in Salzburg. Road paved with stone blocks, jewelers, boutiques, galleries and bookstores, as well as a number of houses situated in the small passages, make this street a great place to walk and enjoy.

Not far from Salzburg are located 52 ski areas, where visitors can enjoy many winter sports. Near the city of Salzburg are the Alps, which is why this city is often called the "Gate of the Alps." Numerous winter resorts, and beautiful sights, make Salzburg ideal place for relaxation and enjoyment.
